Palestinian activists have begun a campaign to bring attention to Palestinian prisoners in general and Palestinian Christian prisoners in particular. Below is a video interview with Nirvat Muaddi wife of imprisoned Marwan Muaaddi. The video is issued by an initiative called Mahd al Mashreq that included this video with English subtitles.ِ A list of Palestinian Christian prisoners below.

I am Nirvat Muaddi, the wife of the political prisoner Marwan Muaadi from Jifna village/ occupied West Bank. Marwan was arrested in 2012, and the Israeli occupation court sentenced him to 8 years in prison. He is the father of our three children, who are now young men: Ibrahim, Peter, and Laith. In his absence, I worked hard to raise them on my own, playing both the role of mother and father.
By God’s grace, they finished school and university. Marwan was supposed to be released in 2021, but two months before his release, the occupation prosecution appealed, and the court extended his sentence to 22 years. We had been eagerly waiting for him to be freed so we could attend our eldest son Ibrahim’s wedding and celebrate together.
The second sentence came as a shock, so we postponed the wedding to stay strong through the difficult time. It was impossible to celebrate without him, as this was supposed to be the first joy in our home. Marwan is now in Rimon Prison, serving his 22-year sentence. He had a heart condition before his imprisonment and suffers from ongoing health issues. The situation inside the prison is terrible. Prisoners and their families are suffering immensely—there are no family visits, no visits from the International Committee of the Red Cross nor from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.
Prisoners are deprived of their personal belongings, including basic necessities like clothing, soap, and even water. Electricity is often cut off, and they are barred from seeing their lawyers. Their situation is incredibly difficult. We call on human rights organizations and church institutions to take action and stand up for the prisoners. My husband is one of 12,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Before October 7, there were about 5,000 prisoners but now the number doubled and has reached more than 12,000 prisoners   We demand their freedom, and we pray and believe that they will all return to their families. The conditions are dire, with the spread of skin diseases like scabies due to the lack of disinfectants and cleaning supplies.   Prisoners need to be supported and asked about, as their families remain in the dark about their loved ones.
