Reading the Gospel of John through Palestinian Eyes by Yohanna Katanacho has been chosen by Christianity Today as one of the five theological books in 2022 from the global church.

The magazine describes the book as follows:

Palestinian theologian Yohanna Katanacho describes Jesus as “shaped by first-century Judaism” but also as one who “redefined” much of what it meant to be Jewish. Katanacho’s commentary on John unpacks the implications of Jesus inhabiting this identity when it comes to understanding the Israeli-Palestinian crisis and the salvation of the world.

Milhalard contacted Rev. Katanacho and he provided us with the following summary of the book:

The second part of the book talks about the identity of the followers of Christ and provides seven identities for Christians: the people of love, the people of the spirit, the people of the Vine, the people of the persecuted group, the people of unity, the people of the Bible, and the people of the resurrection.

We provide the Christian mission from a biblical perspective and the book contributes to countering Christian Zionism from a totally new reading of the Gospel of John. We review the relationship between the old and new Testaments in the light of the coming of Jesus and we give examples from the Palestinian perspective and provide a Palestinian theology for the people living in Israel.
