I did not expect or want to be in the United States at this time, but the sudden death of my brother, lifelong friend, and business partner, Munir Ayoub Rihani, forced me to travel to America.

While I was in America, I followed the election campaign, albeit in a fragmented manner. We hope that it will end peacefully on the final voting day, November 5, although the elections in most states have started for some time and more than a third of those eligible to vote have voted.

The state of Rhode Island in the northeast of America is what the media calls a blue state, meaning that it mostly votes for the Democratic Party in the presidential elections, although there are supporters of the Republican Party, and the number of Republican supporters has increased with the entry of New York businessman Donald Trump into the election ring.

In my follow-up on the elections, we regret the immoral level that the election campaigns have reached, which constituted an unprecedented civilizational slippage in what was known about America, especially the acceptance of the loser of the election results, whatever they may be.
In any case, what matters to us in the Middle East is the position of the two parties on contemporary issues, especially the war on Gaza and Lebanon. Here it must be clarified that there is nothing that provides us with optimism from either party, and there is no chance for a third-party representative like Jill Stein from the Green Party to have any influence.

Kamala Harris has expressed sympathy for the suffering of the Palestinian people, but she is part of an American policy that supports Israel in an unprecedented way. She is fully supported by Senator Bernie Sanders from the state of Vermont, which is close to us. Sanders is not satisfied with the current Biden-Harris administration policy. Still, he believes that it may help find a just solution to the Palestinian issue, and there is no doubt that if she wins, he will have some influence over her administration.

While Trump promises to end wars in Ukraine, Gaza, and Lebanon, he is also an unwavering supporter of the State of Israel. He closed the Palestinian office in Washington, stopped UNRWA aid, and moved the embassy to Jerusalem. He has expressed his unlimited support for Israel on more than one occasion and asked American Jewish voters to support him because he supports Israel.

The most disturbing position for me is the position of many church pastors, especially evangelical ones, who provide blind support to Israel not only for political reasons but with false claims that supporting Israel is a spiritual duty based on the Bible.

It is time to stop the bloodshed in our beloved East, and I hope that America will regain its humanitarian, civilized, and ethical position that recognizes the values ​​of human rights, defends the rights of peoples to self-determination, and rejects injustice.

To achieve stability in the region, a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution must be found. This is the only option that can be the basis for the peace that we seek and we hope that all concerned parties and the world will stand with us to achieve.
